By-law no.332 concerning the keeping of animals on the territory of the Township of Havelock

By-law no. 332 was adopted on Monday, October 2, 2023 and is now in force. This By-law establishes a maximum number of dogs per property (i.e. a maximum of 2 dogs per property, however 4 dogs for a property with a lot size greater than 1 hectare).

We are aware that, at present, some owners have more than 2 or 4 dogs, depending on the size of their property. The adoption of this new By-law does not oblige you to dispose of your dogs, but we do ask you to register your dogs, which will give you an acquired right to the excess dogs for their lifetime or until you give them away. The registration deadline for this “grandfathering” is January 31, 2024.

We therefore invite all dog owners in the Township of Havelock to register their dog with the municipality and obtain a license under the new obligations of By-law no.332. The license is $5 per dog, valid from May 1 to April 30 of each year, and renewal is free. If you lose your license, you can replace it for $5.

Licenses obtained between the coming into force of the By-law and April 30, 2024 will be valid until April 30, 2025.

No census will be carried out on the territory, and we are counting on your full cooperation to put everything in place. By-law no. 332 is available on the website and at the office of the General Director.
