L’avenir de la for\u00eat en Mont\u00e9r\u00e9gie Ouest dans le contexte des changements climatiques<\/strong><\/p>\r\nSaint-Chrysostome, le 28 mars 2022 <\/strong>\u2013 L\u2019\u00e9quipe d\u2019Ambioterra offre actuellement un atelier gratuit, en particulier aux intervenants municipaux de la r\u00e9gion, afin de pr\u00e9senter le bilan de sant\u00e9 de la for\u00eat dans une perspective de lutte aux changements climatiques. Selon les donn\u00e9es de l\u2019agence g\u00e9omatique mont\u00e9r\u00e9gienne (G\u00e9oMont) entre 2009 et 2017, plus de 20 000 hectares de for\u00eats ont disparu sur l\u2019ensemble du territoire de la Mont\u00e9r\u00e9gie. \u00ab La perte de ces superficies foresti\u00e8res n\u2019est pas sans cons\u00e9quence pour la biodiversit\u00e9 et le climat : rel\u00e2chement du CO2<\/sub> dans l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re, destruction des r\u00e9servoirs de carbone, cr\u00e9ation des \u00eelots de chaleur, destruction et d\u00e9gradation des habitats fauniques et floristiques, etc. \u00bb, affirme M. Karel M\u00e9nard, pr\u00e9sident d\u2019Ambioterra.\r\n\r\n\u00a0<\/sub>\r\n\r\n\u00abLa for\u00eat repr\u00e9sente le plus important r\u00e9servoir de carbone terrestre. Les for\u00eats et les sols forestiers poss\u00e8dent une production primaire nette de loin sup\u00e9rieure \u00e0 celle d\u2019autres \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes terrestres, comme les prairies herbac\u00e9es en zone temp\u00e9r\u00e9e et les terres agricoles. Par cons\u00e9quent, la protection et la gestion \u00e9cosyst\u00e9mique de la for\u00eat sont les meilleurs outils d\u2019att\u00e9nuation des \u00e9missions de gaz \u00e0 effet de serre \u00bb, mentionne Priscilla Gareau, directrice g\u00e9n\u00e9rale d\u2019Ambioterra.
